As I read from sshplur in another thread (and I personally thought about it some months ago) Italian could be the fastest languague to speedrun CVX. I'm really into CVX runs these days so I'm gonna test it ASAP. Could be really interesting another WWHD case :D

How does the european version of CVX work? Does it have English, French, Spanish, Deutsche, Italian, and others and still run at 60Hz?

European languages: English, Spanish, Italian, French and German (commonly known here as PAL5) The original DC/PS2/GC releases? Capped at 50Hz. HD is obviously 60Hz and language changes depending on your system's (in the older releases you have a language selector in the start-up)

I would commit suicide before I ever ran PAL 50. Ugh.

You should record as many text boxes as you can find with amarec and sum them up frame by frame with virtualdub and see which one is quickest

wait, so you don't need to create an italian or european account and buy the game again? i've got enough american and japanese accounts already and can't be assed to create yet another one.

It depends on the game. DMC HD, for example, has all of the languages on it, so I can just change my system language and it changes the language of the game.

Well I'm not 100% sure if the US PSN CVX has euro languages, but is easy to check just changing the system language and straight booting the game.

ok, it looks like the euro version has all the languages. i thought it was wierd that the pal/euro version was so much larger than the japanese version, and this goes for both consoles. you can find this out before you purchase or download the game on each console's stores.

japanese version is 2.4 gigs with only one languauge.
euro version is 4.6 gigs, with the other languages, i'm guessing.
US version is 2.4 gigs with one langauge. (downloading it now to confirm)

if it turns out that the euro version is the one to run it might get complicated to run it on the ps3 in SD. the thing about pal ps3 consoles is that they default in 50hz unless the game forces 60hz, like playing an american ps1 game (though american/japanese PS2 classics can't do this for some reason). select ps3 imported games can force 60hz also but not all of them. CVX, unfortunately, is one of those games that can't which meant i had to go out of my way to get a 60hz console just to run the damn game in full frame rate.

you can imagine how much of a pain in the ass it is to run shit when you don't know which game will play in what hz until you find out yourself. this can be avoided altogether if you run in HD with a competitive monitor to avoid input lag or soft mod the console and force it to switch permanently.

the xbox360 doesn't have this problem because you can switch it in the console settings. but the problem with running CVX is that there's input lag.

pal problems.
why.
sad face.

How do more languages add up to 2.2 GB?

i'm not sure, i'm just guessing. so far it makes sense. kind of.

i'll report back later.

Question, have you actually output in HD and noticed the input lag?

it's slight on my 24 inch LG. less than 0.2 seconds. i don't have any hard data for that, it's the 'feel' of the lag.

so the US version only has english. euro version has the other languages and requires changing the console settings to switch them.

as for italian itself, it's hard to say if it's faster than japanese. where english has 2 lines of dialog italian could have 3. versus japanese, it's all over the place; it's either faster, slower or equal.

Oh, so that explains why euro CVX is like 2gb larger than RE4 HD lol

And about the 50hz.. I dunno, I run the game in SD but no way it feels like "classic" PAL speed, but yeah theres some noticeable input lag with the text.

i think it might be bigger because of 50hz data.

So I just found out that Italian text/subtitles were first introduced in CVX for GameCube (previous DC and PS2 were in Spanish, German and French) and PS3/X360. Maybe that has something to do with the possibility of being faster than the other euro text? I'll do a full run tonight to figure it out.

i meant 50hz being the game runs at 25fps/50fps with frame skipping. i avoid that as much as possible because the 5fps or 10fps of information does make a difference. and it's ugly. eww.

pal ps3s not having a 60hz SD option like the wii and xbox360 was a massive oversight or completely stupid on sony's part. it was pretty much standard by 2007 to have one since 50hz tvs were almost killed off. every new ps2 game by that point had the option ffs. i probably should just get a new computer/laptop and hd recording gear but it depends if i want to record stuff other than speed runs. and it's a buttload of money. /rant ;~;
