English controls are mapped same as Japanese with one small difference and no control options, the alarm sound on the bridge is a bit different which makes no difference.
Surprisingly, and coming from our friends at Capcom, the HD version of the game looks vastly improved from the DC/PS2/GC versions, but other than that it's like Mixed said and from what I experienced recently PS2 has more "Now Loading..." parts between cutscenes, but the rest is very similar.
the japanese version is still easier than the english version as before with every character having more health or enemies dealing less damage.
the biggest difference is mutated steve being able to kill the player in 2 hits if at full health. you will die in one hit on yellow caution so you have to do the slower, no damage method to avoiding him or fully heal to take the first hit and then fully heal again to tank the second. if anyone can get the knife method down then you'll be even with the older versions, i'm guessing. no other bosses or enemies were touched, afaik.
the lighting was improved using the MT Framework engine but this resulted in all items not glinting anymore, making them really hard to spot if you don't know the game. the lighter looks really nice though.
there's no lag or framerate drops anymore, which was a bit of a problem on the PS2 version. as much as i hate the game it is technically solid.
the end game credits can be skippped which still counts towards your time. loading times are also the fastest; you can skip cutscenes even before they fade in.
