I started this thread to help current/future runners in deciding what they want to do with little regrets.

Lets say hypothetically a runner wants to get the perfect run, utilizing strategies they've practiced. In this case, they want to practice the strats beforehand the fastest way without emulators. Furthermore, the runner doesn't want to finish runs and plans on resetting early on often (sounds like me heh!).

Which version would be best?

~~~Now lets say a runner wants to get familiar with every aspect of RE2. They still want that perfect run in a few days, but they dont feel like practicing or resetting.
Which version is more efficient?
So, people can play what they want obviously. Arguing against that is pretty stupid in my opinion. if convenience is important to them then they would choose to play x version. It is just nice to have an idea to be confident about.
I think GC is good to practice on cuz you can skip the cutscenes, which makes it less painful just to do some quick practice
Really? It seems like PC would be better for practicing, because you don't have to worry about disc loading
times.
"What is this?" - Barry (RE 1)
The way I look at it is for Game Cube you get to skip cut scenes and on PC you get to skip doors. Depending on what section of the game you're on, either way could be faster for specific situations. It really comes down to personal preference though as you've said Jake in your original post. Personally, I prefer the PC version but would understand people that would prefer the Game Cube version for practicing areas that happen right after long cut scenes.
Yeah, I do wonder though...what if you want a perfect run in like say a week, and you also wanted to reset a lot but still practice stuff (late game, bosses, etc.) what would technically be faster to run on in this situation?
GC version (same goes for PSX) can also be run on emulator, which makes it convenient for practise thanks to save states imo ;o
PC is definitely best for practice.
It can go both ways between PSN/Emu or GCN, but I choose PSN for running because it's stable and there are certain music/audio cues that will always work because the load times are always consistent... The disc medium doesn't allow for that.
For practicing, the GCN version played on Dolphin works best for me.  the ability to skip cut scenes and load save states is perfect.
And yes, I agree with Carci,  I would prefer to do runs on my PSP, for consistency.  The GCN version will always have a special place in my heart though, as its where I started.
BTW guys how "fast" PSN on PS3 loads? It's worth running or nay? Better stick with PC?
PSN/PS3 is the slowest possible version you could run.
Stay away, stay well away.
In my opinion (which is basically all this thread is):
- For general area practice, PC version.
- For repetitive boss testing, GC version.
Why? Scene skip for repetitive tedium before bosses and door skip for the general areas.
Yeah, never play PSN on PS3. It's awful. I started it thinking it was the fastest when I did Chris/Best Ending, but I was an idiot. It's slower than PS1.
PC teleport room hax practice lmao
^ yes, that. As long as you're using 1.0 though, it crashes when I try to use it with 1.1
Emulators arent a bad way to practice though, save states will save u alot of time grinding a certain area out over and over, then theres no real reason you cant apply what you learned to a real run
I need to ask about getting savestates to work on PSXjin actually, because every time I reload a state, character and enemy models + menu assets completely disappear. Sephjul, hjalp!
PSXjin? new emulator? I've never heard of it.  Any good?
PSXjin isn't a new emulator. It's been around for a few years. It's for TASing. TASing is pretty much making a simulated speedrun that you can add inputs to in increments and reload with savestates when you make a mistake... More like making a movie than playing a game, but you get to do stuff like this:
It's a simulated perfect run, but it's only as good as the person routing it. The current RE3 TAS is actually pretty bad.
hey Carc :) For your problem with savestates on psxjin. Seems that some people fix it with this release ( i never had the issue )
