General thread for RE5 to discuss strats and other game related info.

I updated some of the known times and included a PS3 and PC section for SS RTA. I also removed the Normal and Professional by chapter sections as every segmented speedrun will run Amateur mode anyway. Seemed like wasted room.

Thrill - That may change in the future, but most of the times I saw by Mat-Trix 5 years ago were all on Amateur, true.

idk if there are any other WRs for Normal or Professional. Obviously, Veteran never matters.

Yeah that seems reasonable. The thing is with RE5 that all the individual chapter times are already maxed out by players like NaP-Pe. Me and Magnum have tried to equal the times by playing at the exact same level but the IGT really goes against lag (UK to Canada). Our carbon copy run of Nap's 1-2 run (where he got 2:51), we can't even hit 2:53 (our best is 2:54). The only way you could beat 2:51 would be offline co-op or have Japanese to Japanese internet (like Nap) and keep restarting till you get TAS level for 2:50.

That's why the only thing worth running now in RE5 is RTA SS (where lag doesn't really matter much and no insane times have been reached). I guess you can argue to run SS on Amateur but we chose Normal for two reasons:

1. The leaderboard originally asked for Normal mode.
2. If you play Amateur you basically have to 1 cycle the 2-3 boss or restart and waste like 30 minutes. With Normal mode you are pretty much forced to 2 cycle him so it's no longer a run killer.

Thrill, my partner and I are thinking to switch to Normal instead of Amateur, because of our NDesu one cycle we managed to pull out. Thing is, it doesn't happen all the time, and we're not a 100% sure why that is. Basically, is the normal run more consistent?

With normal you are like 100% guaranteed a 2 cycle. I recommend running normal mode for this reason over running the roulette of a 1 cycle amateur run being ruined.

It's not consistent on amateur because the game uses a difficulty adjustment depending on how well you are doing. If you get to 2-3 with no deaths/high hit ratio he is more likely to take 2 turns. You can get a 1 turn by dying/having a low hit ratio but that's almost impossible to do without losing any time in an SS RTA.

I didn't know about the difficulty adjustement. Is Normal still faster, overall? I know there are a few differences, but I can't think of any that might lose major time.

Well if you one cycled Ndesu each time, Amateur would be fastest. Enemies do take slightly more ammo but with RL/Magnum it's hardly a time loss.

If i remember correctly, the official guide for RE5 had some stats with difficulty adjustments.

The breakdown will be something like this:

Amateur 1-4
Normal 4-6
Veteran 6-9
Professional 10

When you play, you earn an invisible ammount of Points.
The higher your points, the harder it will be, and the lower your points, the easier it wll be
Dont be scared to kick ass though, Your 1-10 difficulty will stop on the designated skill level.

Such as Normal, it can only get to 6

You start at 0, and when you Kill multiple enimies, without getting touched, the game gradually get a bit harder.

This is to keep a balance of experienced gameplayers, and non experienced game players.

Now to explain how to earn them.

+ = Small Point Increase
++ = Moderate Point Increase
+++ = Severe Point Increase
- = Small Point Decrease
-- = Moderate Point Decrease
--- Severe Point Decease

Kill multiple enemies = + Pts
Get into Dying Status alot = --
1 death = -
3 deaths = --
6 deaths = ---
Kill a boss without dying = +++
Kill a boss without dying = ++
